Prince Edward Island holds its largest PNP draw ever, issuing up to 305 invitations

PEI has held its largest PNP draw as of yet, issuing up to 305 invitations. Prince Edward Island released details of two PNP draws in August. Moreover, one of them was the biggest the program has ever seen since its inception. The Island sent out up to 305 invitations to candidates in all streams on August 2020. Previously, eight candidates got invitations for Express Entry and Labour Impact on August 11. 28 of these 305 invitations target Business Impact candidates, while the remaining 277 are for Express Entry and Labour Impact. A full breakdown of the PEI PNP is, unfortunately, not available for analysis.

The PEI PNP has specified that candidates chosen are already currently living and working within the province. These candidates also had filed Expression of Interest (EOI) profiles before June 2020 before the draw.

Different programs, different opportunities in PEI

The PEI PNP’s Express Entry Category starts from the Canadian government’s Express Entry system. The Express Entry manages applications for these categories: Federal Skilled Worker Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class. Moreover, candidates score under the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS). Among factors taken into consideration are age, work experience, education and also language proficiency. In order to be considered for the PEI PNP, each candidate needs to create an EOI. EOI profiles take into account the needs of the province, for example, a specific economic sector. The highest-scoring candidates then receive invitations through monthly draws.

The Labour Impact Category is for foreign nationals holding a valid job offer in Prince Edward Island. Divided into Skilled Worker, Critical Worker and International Graduate, the LIC has been a strong force for employment in the province.

Finally, the Business Impact Category is for those foreign entrepreneurs who wish to own and operate a business in PEI. In order to be issued an invitation, the 28 candidates needed a minimum EOI score of 112.
